‘Air de Printemps’ opening event

Reading of stories by Guy de Maupassant with Muriel Mayette

Muriel Mayette was the first female administrator of the Comédie-Française and the first woman to lead the Académie de France in Rome at Villa Medici, a post she has occupied since September 2015.

She started at the Comédie-Française in 1985 at the age of twenty, having trained at the National Superior Conservatory of Dramatic Arts (CNSAD). Outside of the Comédie-Française, she was part of the cast of Le Misanthrope, directed by André Engel.

After just a year as the administrator at the Académie de France in Rome, she had already made her mark on the Villa, having created various cultural events of different kinds and of great significance. These included ¡Viva Villa!, an artists’ residence festival, in collaboration with the Casa de Vélazquez in Madrid and Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto, and “Les jeudis de la Villa, Questions d’art”, a programme of weekly meetings with free entrance for the public, where contemporary creation was examined by guest artists from all disciplines.

Muriel Mayette has been named an Officer of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, a Knight of the Ordre National du Mérite and a Knight of the Ordre National de la Légion d’Honneur.
